Library in Every Neighborhood's first Training

MEPI 1st trainingJuly: Library in Every Neighborhood holds the first training for its volunteers. Every volunteer had two days of training, the first day consisting of sessions on soft skills such as communication skills and goal setting. On the second day, the volunteers received training from Palestinian storyteller Denes Assad on the art of reading aloud to children.

February: Taghyeer organization, launched “A Library in Every Neighborhood” project through a Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the US Department of State grant. Taghyeer, in partnership with INJAZ organization, will select 40 volunteers from various areas in the Kingdom ages between 18 and 24. The volunteers will participate in training workshops on how to read aloud and on development of personal, managerial as well as social entrepreneurship skills. The one year Project also aims at introducing and sustaining the concept of volunteerism in youth. Volunteers will establish and own the libraries in their local communities and will receive children stories to read aloud. In addition, volunteers will launch social initiatives of their own that serve the needs of their local communities, thus enhancing their leadership, managerial and team building capacities.

February: The Taghyeer NGO / We Love Reading program was granted by USAID to develop twelve books in the Arabic language for children ages 4 to 10 years old. The topics addressed in these books are related to water and energy resources available in Jordan and the best ways to conserve these minimal resources. The NGO will draw upon the expertise of local Jordanian writers and illustrators to create these books, which will then be distributed among the children who attend the 100 libraries of the “We Love Reading” program spread throughout Jordan.

Dr.Rana Dajani Speaks at Yale

January: Rana Dajani gave a lecture at the Council for Middle East studies at Yale University as part of the Colloquium series on January 23 about Education Challenges in the Middle East, The Path Forward: Sharing insights and Experiences.

Rana Dajani Talks at the Business Leaders Campaign- Injaz

December: Rana Dajani director of We Love Reading was invited by Injaz as part of the Business Leaders Campaign to talk about we love reading and how to be an entrepreneur at Al Amer Hasan –UNRWA School on December 26th, 2013. The message that Rana gave the girls was: belive in yourself, nothing is impossible, hard work pays off. كلكم راع و كلكم مسؤول عن رعيته It was a wonderful experience The girls were wonderful. They asked great questions. I am sure that they will be great empowered women when they grow up.

Reading Sessions to Children with Spinal Cord Injuries

December: Our dear volunteer Ola Kahhaleh reads to children with spinal cord injuries. These reading sessions are helping the kids deal with the traumas they’re living and provide them with rays of hope. We hope all the best for Ola and the children she reads to!

WLR at the AIN Conference

WLR Training Workshop in Shobak

November: On the 16th and 17th of November, 2013 We Love Reading held a training workshop In Shobak that was attended by 40 women from Shobak and nearby area. The ladies were trained how to read aloud for children and how to tackle and discuss environmental issues with children.

Volunteers in the "Library in Every Neighborhood" had their second training.

October: Volunteers in the "Library in Every Neighborhood" had their second training. The first day focused on how the volunteers could start their personal initiatives. So they received training on leadership, team-work skills and a case study. In the second day the volunteers receive training on creative thinking and time management. Then a discussion on the volunteers' experiences takes place.

WLR Visits Library in Every Neighborhood Volunteers

September:WLR visits Library in Every Neighborhood volunteers in Irbid, Amman, Karak, Baqa’a Camp and Schneller camp. We have attended live read aloud sessions and lived the wonderful experience with the kids. We’re very proud of the job those youth are doing!

Dr. Jean from University of Chicago visits WLR

September: Dr.Jean Decety from University of Chicago has visited us to prepare for a study that measures the effect of reading on empathy. Dr. Decety is neurobiologist whose work mainly focuses on the biology of our social lives.

WLR Training Workshop at Kids R Us

February: WLR held a training session at Kid R Us in Amman on February 23, 2013. Most of the attendees were teachers. It is wonderful to know that these teachers will be inspiring students to enjoy reading in the future.

We Love Reading in Uganda

January: We Love Reading has spread to Uganda. Thanks to Mr Matovu Abdallah Twaha and his friend Mr. Magoba. Both are working hard in creating libraries in neighborhoods and villages in Uganda. Link to radio.
