In aim to learn about the the “We Love Reading” program activities and implement it, the founders of “Dar Al-Hikmah” schools in Berlin, Germany, visited the headquarters of “We Love Reading” in Amman. The visit included an engaging discussion with Prof. Rana Dajani about reading and its societal role in promoting literacy, along with a review of the program’s training and the children’s book development section, to implement the program and transfer children’s books to their schools.
The “Dar Al-Hikmah” schools, established by Abdullah Hajjir and Siham Hajjir, with primary goal of teaching Arab children the Arabic language in Germany. In addition, the “Sufinat Al-Hikmah” school focuses on language exchange between Arabic and German, integrating Arab students with their German peers.
Abdullah and Siham Hajjir also participated in the in-person “We Love Reading” training in Jordan. They are currently implementing the program’s reading methodologies in their schools, using the training techniques as well as WLR children’s books, which have been added to their libraries.
Siham Hajjir shared her experience after holding a reading session in Germany, saying: ” WLR’s books and their content had a significant impact, capturing the students’ attention due to their simplicity and realism, which allows children to see themselves as characters within the stories.”
Hajjir added, “The training was a unique opportunity through which we learned a new way of reading that we will definitely touch the benefits of when incorporated into our methodology for teaching Arabic. It also helps introduce children to the Arab environment through the books. The training also highlighted many techniques that we aim to apply in our roles in education and reading.”
This visit was a part of efforts to promote reading within the educational context, playing an important role in expanding students’ horizons worldwide
