Changing mindsets through reading to create change-makers
Taghyeer is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 2010 in Amman, Jordan. The We Love Reading program is carried out under Taghyeer’s patronage and aims to foster the love of reading for pleasure among children. Our initiative trains local men, women, and youth to hold regular read-aloud sessions for children in public spaces in their neighborhoods. We Love Reading has spread to more than 50 countries around the world, where thousands of We Love Reading libraries have been established.
Taghyeer’s goal is to create a healthy, vibrant society by empowering people to think critically and lead the change they seek in their communities. Taghyeer strives to improve the cultural, social, psychological, and educational wellbeing of children, youth, and women across Jordan by developing entrepreneurial capabilities through hands-on training that is grounded in research and real-life experiences.
Our philosophy is based on the butterfly effect—the concept that small actions can have far-reaching consequences. We believe that just one person can make a difference and that the contribution of each individual matters. Through collective effort, transformation unfolds.
We recognize that lastjing change takes time, so we focus on the here and now regardless of the immediate visibility of the results. We continue step by step, harnessing our passion to enact the change we seek and leading by example so that WLR Reading Ambassadors can do the same.
By operating the WLR program, Taghyeer provides a simple, sustainable, and scalable read aloud program to foster the love of reading for pleasure among children in the MENA region and globally. The program is designed to help communities develop ownership over their circumstances by training local volunteers to become WLR Reading Ambassadors.
We seek to empower and engage our workforce, create partnerships with key stakeholders, leverage technology, and ensure continuous development based on scientific research.
Taghyeer per its mandate as a non profit organization registered with the ministry of social development and ministry of culture in Jordan reinvests any funding it receives because of its products and services back into Taghyeer’s social mission.
