Routledge has released this year the first edition of “Global Entrepreneurship in Practice: A Case Study Collection”, edited by Jay A. Azriel and Jennifer Irwin, both professors specializing in innovation and entrepreneurship at Lycoming College. The book offers a comprehensive collection of case studies from around the world and aims to provide students and researchers with a practical and holistic understanding of the entrepreneurial journey in both for-profit and nonprofit ventures, from the initial idea and founding, through market entry, financial planning, and operations management, to growth strategies and exit scenarios, including failures and bankruptcies.
Among the diverse case studies presented, the book dedicates a full chapter to the “We Love Reading” program, highlighting it as a leading example of social entrepreneurship. The chapter explores how a simple local idea transformed into a globally successful model, focusing on training local leaders to conduct read-aloud sessions for children, strategies for scaling, impact measurement, and adaptation to different international contexts. The chapter also examines the entrepreneurial decisions made by the program’s organization to balance expansion with preserving the core values of the initiative, making it a rich applied example for understanding social entrepreneurship.
Each case study in the book includes a contextual summary, reflective questions, learning activities, and academic references, supporting the development of critical thinking, analytical skills, and decision-making, while emphasizing the link between academic theory and practical application. The editors stress that the book’s purpose is to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs to understand real-world challenges and develop innovative solutions that can be applied in diverse contexts.
