With the aim of providing an open platform for dialogue on issues of science and innovation and encouraging lifelong learning and reading, particularly among youth and young adults, the Qatar National Library (QNL) hosted WLR founder Prof. Rana Dajani at its Science Book Forum.
Dajani began her lecture by engaging the audience in a discussion about role models, asking them to guess which figures they recognized from the ones she showed. Among those she highlighted was journalist Maryam Abu Daqqa, who was killed in Gaza, and a young girl chef from Gaza, emphasizing that real heroes are not fictional but exist around us in our communities. She also spoke of her father, Dr. Basem Dajani, noting that role models do not always have to be distant but can often be found within our own homes.
The Science Book Forum session, held in Doha, was presented by Dajani under the title “Doing the Impossible: If We Can Reverse Cell Fate, Why Can’t We Reimagine Success?”
On the subject of science, Dajani reflected on milestones from her diverse journey as a scientist specializing in molecular biology, a social entrepreneur, and an advocate for science education and women’s empowerment in the Arab world.
She explained that success should not be viewed as a fixed destination but as a renewed vision rooted in change, impact, and the pursuit of a brighter future for humanity and the planet. She also stressed that while scientific research opens doors to new possibilities, society must not forget that freedom is still denied to many people across the world, who cannot choose their own paths in life.
Organizing such events aims to provide community members with the opportunity to engage with influential thinkers, explore innovative ideas, and, as the forum describes, Prof. Rana Dajani’s journey confirms that true success is the ability to create change, make an impact, and instill resilience and determination in everyone.
