Shells of Freedom

This story is inspired by the real experiences of children and families in Palestine during the genocidal war on Gaza. It shines a light on their suffering and courage in the face of fear and destruction—and on the hope that continues to take root despite the pain.
The characters in this story are drawn from real heroes who left their mark on the land of Palestine: from the martyred journalist Maryam Abu Daqqa, who wielded words and a camera as weapons for truth, to the teachers who continued educating children in tents, and the medics who risked their lives to save others. Every name in this story carries a true account of steadfastness, compassion, and an unyielding will to live.
From Gaza to the world, the voice of this story travels through the We Love Reading program, now present in more than 78 countries. Through this program, children across the globe have brought Palestinian stories into their little libraries and shared feelings of love and solidarity with the children of Gaza in many ways: through prayer, through words, and through art.
