These photos capture a beautiful coincidence, bringing together Dr. Rula Sanqart, ambassador of the We Love Reading program, Dr. Rana Dajani, the program’s founder, Farida, a graduate student from Gaza who came to Jordan to pursue her master’s degree in Glasgow, Scotland.
Dr. Rula works with her friends on an initiative aimed at supporting students coming from Gaza to complete their education
through scholarships in countries such as Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdom. It was her privilege to assist Farida, a student from Gaza, who came to Jordan before traveling to Glasgow, Scotland, to pursue her master’s degree.
Farida, a teacher from Gaza, had completed her studies in English. Amidst the genocide in Gaza, her home was completely destroyed, and she and her family sustained injuries. Despite needing medical care, she could not receive it, as doctors in Gaza considered her injuries minor compared to the severe injuries others suffered amid the ongoing genocide of Palestinians.
During her stay in Jordan, prior to heading to Glasgow, Farida spent several days with Dr. Rula, who helped oversee her medical needs and provide necessary support. In a remarkable coincidence, Dr. Rula met Dr. Rana Dajani, founder of We Love Reading, at the hospital. Dr. Rula describes the program and its ambassadors as a “large family around the world,” and this meeting allowed Dr. Rana to get to know Farida.
Just hours before Farida’s departure, they met at Dr. Rana Dajani’s home in Amman for an evening full of conversations and discussions. Farida spoke about the twenty educational tents she established for children across Gaza, from north to south, and her ambition to continue her education to become a leader abroad before returning to Gaza to serve her community. According to Dr. Rula, Farida’s story was exceptional and unique, just like her name.
Dr. Rula emphasizes that We Love Reading is not just about reading to children; it connects people across different social contexts, encourages giving, communication, and support among communities.
