At the beginning of the year, a joint collaboration was launched between the We Love Reading program and the Children of Female Prisoners Care Association in Egypt to implement the WLR training program in the country. The collaboration aims to promote a culture of reading for pleasure among children in various communities, including the children of female prisoners.
This partnership followed Dr. Nawal Mostafa’s visit to the We Love Reading headquarters in Amman, Jordan, where her schedule included theoretical and practical activities, field visits to read-aloud sessions, and intensive meetings with the program’s team and Prof. Rana Dajani to plan the implementation stages and establish libraries featuring WLR’s children’s books. Dr. Nawal also attended a read-aloud session to observe reading methodologies, storytelling techniques, and effective ways to engage children and select stories.
The training was conducted online and led by WLR trainer Ghufran Abu Diya over two days. The first day introduced the program’s philosophy and key studies on the impact of reading in communities, while the second day focused on practical applications of reading aloud and interactive activities with participants.
One of the trainees, Mr. Tareq Al-Rifai, shared that the read-aloud sessions were highly positive, as children enjoyed the stories and engaged with them attentively. Many ambassadors held read-aloud sessions immediately after the training. He added that the children expressed great enthusiasm for attending regular sessions and eagerly exchanged books to explore the illustrations after reading, ending the session with an interactive game searching for small details hidden within the story’s pages one of the creative features designed in We Love Reading books.
