Over the course of a two-day intensive workshop, the We Love Reading program was invited by the Ministry of Culture to take part in a workshop organized by UNESCO to discuss the Culture-2030 Indicators Framework and its role in supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Jordan.
The program was represented by Afnan Khaleel Amro, Project Manager at We Love Reading. The workshop brought together representatives from local institutions, ministries, government bodies, and civil society organizations to explore data collection strategies for 22 culture indicators identified by UNESCO. These indicators aim to assess the role of culture in achieving sustainable development.
The indicators are grouped into four main 4 dimensions: Environment & Resilience, Prosperity & Livelihoods, Knowledge & Skills, and Inclusion & Participation, the We Love Reading program was associated with several indicators across multiple dimensions, due to its contributions through community-based trainings and the development of children’s books that address all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This connection highlights the program’s extensive experience in promoting informal education and fostering reading communities.
The program will join the next phase of the workshop to follow up on developments and next steps in the project. This participation reaffirms We Love Reading’s strong commitment to supporting culture as a key pillar of sustainable development and highlights reading as a powerful tool for empowerment and lifelong learning.
