The Robert Bosch Academy, an institution of the Robert Bosch Foundation dedicated to fostering collaboration on global issues, recently hosted an event aimed at amplifying the voices of marginalized groups through civil society initiatives. Held at the Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH in Berlin, the event featured a screening of “The Neighborhood Storyteller” film and a debate focused on the empowerment of marginalized communities.
A stage talk took place, featuring Alejandra Alcala, director of The Neighborhood Storyteller, and Asmaa Rashed, protagonist of The Neighborhood Storyteller and ambassador of We Love Reading. The discussion, moderated by Prof. Rana Dajani, Founder of We Love Reading and Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow at the Robert Bosch Academy, highlighted the pivotal role of initiatives like We Love Reading in empowering marginalized groups, particularly in the context of migration and refugees.
The documentary showcased the inspiring story of We Love Reading’s ambassador, Asmaa Al-Rashed. Additionally, the Academy Debate among panelists included Amal Abass, Social Entrepreneur and Winner of the 2023 Berlin Women’s Prize; Ahmed Abed, Member of District Parliament of Neukölln; and Abier Nasereddin, Regional Head of Stadtteilmütter in Neukölln, Diakoniewerk Simeon gGmbH, discussed strategies for amplifying the agency of marginalized groups through civil society initiatives. The debate delved into the importance of organizations like We Love Reading in providing support and empowerment to marginalized communities, emphasizing their commitment to promoting literacy and storytelling as tools for empowerment.
