WLR has recently participated in Phi Research and Innovation Summit 2019 which has been held on Aug 5-6, 2019. It is an annual gathering of the Jordanian and Arab youth under one goal and united by one passion: to create an Arab scientific revolution, a neo-renaissance era in scientific research and innovation. Dr. Rana Dajani participated in the scientific aspect of the conference, where she gave talks and lectures about her work as a molecular biologist and her latest research in this field. The program has its place in the exhibition where a booth for WLR displayed WLR environment books and Dr. Rana’s book Five Scarves: Doing the Impossible.
During the two days of the conference, the engagement of people was immense. All of those who come by will stop and register their names to become part of the program. What really warmed our hearts was meeting our reading ambassadors. They were from different places in Jordan (Aqaba, Amman, Zarqah, etc…) and we have luckily met one of our reading ambassadors from Iraq, Suhad, who showed inimitable excitement when she knew WLR had a booth in the conference. And through this conference more reading ambassador joined the family. One of the reading ambassadors who joined through this conferenceis now reading to children in Morocco.
To us, WLR reading ambassadors were “the life of the party”. What had been even more splendid than meeting our reading ambassadors was meeting their children (who no longer look like children). We met the son of Al-Tahhan family and he was so proud of his mother and wanted to become an ambassador like her. At that moment we felt that WLR is the grandparent and its heart loves its child but it adores its child’s child!
What makes the We Love Reading program unique is the warmth and harmony you feel whenever you meet someone who belongs to the program. Even those who have heard about the program, meeting them will make you feel the same. The program started as an initiative then a program then a movement, and today it is more like a community composed of one family; the We Love Reading family.
