As part of the Learning Planet Festival. “We Love Reading organized an event entitled ‘A Reading Marathon for We Love Reading ambassadors around the world” on January 24th, in conjunction with the International Day of Education, where panelists from Mexico, Kenya, Benin, and France presented their experiences in implementing the We Love Reading Program and how it impacted them and the children.
During the session, panelists explained how they learned about the program, how they began implementing it in their countries, and how the program has impacted ambassadors, children, and communities.
Dr. Joan Quintero and Yolanda Quintero from Mexico from our partner organization Club UNESCO Cege@ shared their experience with We Love Reading and did a presentation on their organization’s activities to promote literacy in their community.
Mr. Hounga WLR ambassador in Benin said: “Leading is our duty and the reason we are doing this program, I look to spread this program in all West Africa”.
In addition, Dr. Clarie Odhiambo, a presentative from the Siaya Community Library talked about how reading helps children to have better futures and better jobs in Kenya and how they started a reading club after taking the WLR training and she said that they start to do reading sessions every Friday.
Asmaa Alrashed WLR ambassador in France said how reading changed her life after receiving the WLR training in the Zaatari camp and how she started her initiative to support girls in the camp.
Yara Aldaour from Jordan also explained her experience in holding reading sessions for children and how reading can help children dream and have a new perspective.
The Learning Planet Festival is an annual event held in partnership with UNESCO and hundreds of pioneering organizations in education, culture, science, and social and environmental impact. It brings together thousands of students and young activists from around the world to celebrate International Education Day.”
