Dr. Rana Dajani, (Founder of #WLR) associate professor at the Jepson school for leadership university of Richmond gave the opening plenary speech at the EvoKE 2019 conference in Split Croatia on Sep 27 2019.
Dr Dajani started her talk emphasizing storytelling as a tool for teaching critical thinking. Sharing her approach of teaching how to have an opinion and respecting other people’s opinion. As well as providing resources on how to overcome cultural biases and cognitive barriers and scientific deficient in teaching difficult scientific topics.
More than 100 participants, ranging from researchers and educators to media and policymakers, have come together to transform evolution education and outreach in the world.
The 2.5 days will include plenary talks by invited speakers (listed here) and multiple workshops (listed here) which will allow you to:

• Share your expertise in evolution education and outreach;
• Learn about new tools and resources;
• Prototype new evolution education and outreach projects.
EvoKE is a community of scientists, educators, science communicators, policy makers and journalists, all united around the idea of making biological evolution and the science behind it more accessible and understandable to the society. EvoKE aims to build a collaborative, diverse, and dynamic network of people interested in promoting a greater scientific literacy in evolution.
