At We Love Reading, we believe that children are our future. That is why we strive to create a world in which children’s education and growth remain a collective objective for all. This vision is shared by Squash Dreamers, an organisation based in Amman that empowers young refugees and under-resourced girls through a combination of sport and education. Sandy Schneider, an American educator, was introduced to WLR’s founder Dr. Rana Dajani through their mutual participation in the Fullbright-Hays seminar. Their mutual passion for children’s literacy encouraged Sandy to explore WLR’s community-based approach, of which would complement her own work in Squash Dreamers.
Through childhood memories of her mother reading aloud and their habitual visits to their local library in Connecticut, Sandy founded Dreamers Library in 2025. Containing a collection of both Arabic and English language books, the library allowed girls to read via their own initiative in the language that they loved. Additionally, Sandy introduced the WLR training programme to the older girls, allowing them to become Reading Ambassadors and develop their leadership skills by taking initiative of reading to younger participants. The impact of Sandy’s work was seen in a girl named Wamda, who brought two books from the Dreamers Library and surprised her younger siblings with them. Their enthusiastic reactions reflected the broader impact that the library had, as storytelling did not only foster confidence and excitement in Wamda, but her passion for reading surpassed her personal impact and was able to reach her siblings as well.
Through shared ambition, We Love Reading and Squash Dreamers illustrate how reading is able to expand the mind of children in order for them to view the world as limitless, bounded only by the extent of their ambition. By empowering the upcoming generation to recognize their potential of being both learners and role models, we plant the seeds of initiative and positive change, inspiring them to see the boundless possibilities the world has to offer.
