Today, in cooperation with the Change Association / We Love Reading Program, the Ministry of Culture has launched the national reading campaign website in the King Abdullah II Cultural Center in Zarqa Governorate.
The launch of this platform comes in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Haifa Al-Najjar, and the President of the We Love Reading Program, Dr. Rana Al-Dajani, coinciding with the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the Ministry of culture and the Change Association.
The Ministry believes in the importance of promoting local cultural work, launching it in free creative space, building the capabilities of societies to manage cultural action and employing it to influence human life, and raising awareness of the importance of reading as a platform for changing behavior, motivating and developing the capabilities of children and young people and encouraging them to develop knowledge and aspects of creativity and innovation.
The Minister of Culture, Al-Najjar, said, “We are all proud and happy that we are launching today the We Love Reading platform, which is the result of effective partnership with this distinguished pioneering program that seeks to foster the heart and soul.”
She added We proceed from our roots, our Arabic language, our culture, our values, and our steadfastness in our Arab-Islamic civilization and the diversity we live in, to build a critical, creative, spiritual person who believes in human relations, to invest in him and transfer our experience to the whole world.
Al-Najjar stressed that launching the “We Love Reading” platform, which is an effective, interactive platform aimed at promoting the love of reading for the fun in children and young people, training volunteers from the local community to read aloud to children, is an achievement we are proud of, and a celebration of our partnership with the organizers of this initiative, which formed a model In the region to produce knowledge.
For her part, Dr. Rana Al-Dajani, founder of the We Love Reading Initiative, said that “we are happy and proud of this launch of the national campaign “We love reading, and its slogan is to change mindsets through reading, to develop change-makers. This campaign is a reflection of several concepts and principles essential to achieving sustainable development and a nation.” It is better for the future generation, and through the campaign we will reach every neighborhood and every home, to enhance the value of the love of reading in our children and to stimulate the internal motives for a love of reading that will lead to a love of learning that will remain for life.
She added that the campaign will engage all members of society, old and young, men and women, by reading aloud, which leads to enhancing a sense of responsibility and maximizing the importance of individuals wherever they are, stressing the importance of the partnership between civil society, the government sector represented by the Ministry of Culture, the private sector and the media, without this partnership, we will not be able to change.
We Love Reading Program, which was established in 2006, aims to foster a love of reading for children’s enjoyment, based on numerous scientific foundations and research and is based on the idea of training local volunteers, men and women of different ages, to read aloud to children through holding reading sessions in their neighborhoods and homes to bring about change.
