Three years ago, Adalah Hussein Abu Madeen began working as an ambassador for the We Love Reading program
in Gaza, where she conducted special reading sessions for children with Down Syndrome to develop their interactive skills and enhance cognitive skills, using visual and interactive means to simplify concepts and information.
During the recent events of the war, and the aggression against Gaza Strip, Adalah could not complete reading for children. Ghufran Abu Dayyeh from the team of the We Love Reading program tried to contact Adalah to check on her, but she could not reach her due to the circumstances of the war.
Today, after the return of calm to the Gaza Strip, we received a letter from Adalah that contains the following:
“My dear Mrs. Ghufran and my team thank you for your care. We thank God who gave us protection and safety in these unsafe conditions, but God is omnipotent for everything. They were difficult days with great tension where I had to leave my house because there were nearby areas targeted. In the last days, these areas were targeted but thank God our conditions are much better than others. Some people have lost their home, work, and loved ones, others have lost an organ and many have lost their lives, dreams, and memories.
I have lost a large part of me, which is the place that I consider my second home, which contains my preoccupations, hobbies, and friends – “books”. The library that I used to buy books from that educate me, delight me, and inspire me, was destroyed. It was the only library that was able to provide all the books I need, which I enjoy reading.
I will do my best to contribute to the library’s support to make up for what I lost because of this aggression that always tries to target the places where we learn and educate, and I will continue to read books and write stories and nothing will stop me to follow up my dream and pursue my passion
Greetings,
Adalah.”
We, in turn, send a message to our ambassador Adalah that when people are denied their basic and internationally recognized rights, bombed and killed for protesting and expressing freedom, and demanding the restoration of their lands, these are crimes against humanity, and we must stand firm against injustice anywhere, no exceptions.
