On World Teachers’ Day, We Love Reading participated in an online session to discuss the “Pathways to Transforming Education Report”. The meeting brought together a group of teachers and educational experts from all over the world.
The We Love Reading Ambassador, Tammam Al-Hiyari, winner of the Queen Rania Award for Outstanding Teacher, participated as a representative from the Arab region, and Sarah Al-Atoum (16 years old student) participated as well.
The speakers discussed the importance of the report issued by the Catalyst2030 Network, which aims to transform education in line with SDGs, and in line with the learner needs
The attendees discussed the eight principles of education mentioned in the report, which are:
- Learner-centric models and Learner-led approach 2. Skills for Life 3. Learning a Living 4. Social Justice, Gender, and Community-based learning 5. Learning for People & planetary change 6. Learning for Civic Participation 7. Accessible & Inclusive Learning 8. Learning in Conflict Zones. The speakers also unanimously called on governments and education ministers to adopt the Education Report.
Dr. Urvashi Sinha (a social entrepreneur and writer) moderated the session, and Prof. Rana Dajani Founder of We love reading invited everyone to attend another discussion of the report with the governments of ten countries on 20-November.
We Love Reading Ambassador Tammam Al-Hiyari said that “the involvement of parents and students in designing the curriculum is very important, and this is one of the main recommendations of the Education Transformation Report, the Jordanian government has taken positive steps in this direction, however, it’s very they should continue and fill the current gaps.”
She also said: “I am proud to be an ambassador for the “We Love Reading” program, as the program helped children develop their skills and express themselves, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when they dropped out of school. We love reading was one of the solutions for children to continue to learn.”
As a secondary school student, Sarah Al-Atoum said: “We must be equipped as learners with skills that prepare us for life because we are the builders of the future, and because our planet is going through many crises. In order to save it, we must be qualified for that.”
Previously, Dr. Rana Dajani met with a group of We Love Reading Ambassadors from teachers and educators who have a long experience in teaching, where they discussed the report and the recommended suggestions.
Teachers who took part in this meeting were: Tammam Al-Hiyari, Somaya Al-Sarayrah, Hanan Bawadi, Ayat Al-Assaf, and Laila Abu Rabei.
