In a resounding triumph for literacy and education, the Siaya Community Library (SCL) has made remarkable progress in Kenya after implementing the We Love Reading (WLR) program in Africa, heralding a new era of learning and enlightenment across the region. Through their “READ ALOUD” pilot project, SCL has trained local teachers and volunteers to hold read-aloud sessions in schools and public spaces, making reading as playful as possible for learners both at school and at home.
Since its implementation by the Siaya Community Library, the We Love Reading program has garnered widespread acclaim for its innovative approach to promoting literacy. The program has successfully engaged families and communities in the pursuit of reading and learning.
A notable development in the ongoing success of the We Love Reading program is the enthusiastic response from parents. Recognizing the vital role of play-based learning in early childhood development, parents have fervently advocated for the inclusion of playbooks in the program, enhancing learning experiences in both English and native languages.
In a heartening display of unity and commitment, all 790 members present at a recent gathering unanimously pledged to hold a reading session for the children. Testimonials shared during the event underscored the profound impact of the program on individuals and families, echoing sentiments of gratitude and optimism.
As the We Love Reading program continues to collaborate with Siaya to flourish in Kenya, it serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity, empowering communities with the invaluable gift of literacy.
